Background of the Study
Mobile banking has revolutionized the delivery of financial services, offering convenience and accessibility to customers across diverse regions. Ecobank Nigeria has strategically invested in upgrading its mobile banking system to enhance service reliability and drive customer satisfaction. These upgrades include improvements in user interface design, transaction processing speed, and system security, which collectively aim to reduce service disruptions and enhance the overall user experience (Okoro, 2023). The bank’s mobile platform is continuously refined based on customer feedback and performance analytics, ensuring that the services remain responsive to changing market demands.

Through these system upgrades, Ecobank Nigeria seeks to address common issues such as slow load times, transaction errors, and security vulnerabilities that have previously hindered digital banking adoption. The enhanced mobile banking system features integrated real-time monitoring tools, automated alerts for system anomalies, and robust encryption protocols that safeguard sensitive customer data (Adebayo, 2024). These technological improvements have not only increased customer trust but have also contributed to operational efficiency by reducing the need for manual interventions and troubleshooting.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain in achieving seamless service reliability. Variability in network connectivity, particularly in rural areas, and occasional technical glitches can still disrupt service, affecting customer confidence and usage rates. This study examines the impact of mobile banking system upgrades on service reliability at Ecobank Nigeria, evaluating both the benefits achieved and the operational challenges encountered in the process.

Statement of the Problem
Although Ecobank Nigeria has significantly upgraded its mobile banking system, persistent issues continue to affect service reliability. One of the primary challenges is inconsistent network connectivity, which results in intermittent service interruptions and slower transaction processing times, particularly in remote areas (Chukwu, 2023). These connectivity issues can undermine the benefits of system upgrades and deter customers from fully embracing digital banking solutions.

Furthermore, technical glitches such as app crashes and delayed transaction confirmations remain a concern, leading to customer frustration and potential financial discrepancies. Integration challenges between new system components and existing legacy technologies can also result in occasional errors, reducing the overall efficiency of the mobile platform. Additionally, the rapid pace of technological evolution necessitates ongoing updates and maintenance, which can strain the bank’s resources and lead to temporary service disruptions.

This study aims to identify the key factors that limit the effectiveness of mobile banking system upgrades in improving service reliability at Ecobank Nigeria. By analyzing technological, infrastructural, and operational challenges, the research seeks to propose strategies that can mitigate these issues and enhance the overall user experience, thereby increasing customer adoption and satisfaction.
